Springtime on the Farm: Lambing, Baby Animals, and Family Fun!

Dawn Dawson

This April, we invite you to experience the wonders of the countryside at Solsgirth Home Farm, where you and your family can meet adorable lambs, baby chicks, and ducklings, and get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of farm life.

Spring is the most exciting time on the farm, with lambs taking their first wobbly steps and playful new arrivals filling the fields.

Our Spring Tours run Monday to Friday, 10am to 12pm, from 7th to 18th April, offering a rare opportunity to experience the magic of lambing season up close.

Visitors can hold a lamb, move them to pasture, and, if lucky, even witness a live birth. This is a unique experience that promises unforgettable memories for all ages!

What Is Lambing?

Lambing is the seasonal process of ewes (female sheep) giving birth to their lambs, typically occurring in early spring. Farmers provide round-the-clock care to ensure the health and safety of both ewes and newborns. Lambs are usually born in a sheltered environment before being moved to pasture once they are strong enough.

Visitors to our farm may have the chance to see newborn lambs taking their first steps and learn about the crucial role farmers play in their care. For more information on lambing and farm education, check out RHET and The Royal Highland Show and GoRural.

FAQs

Is there parking?

Yes! We have a newly concreted car park that can accommodate up to 40 cars.

Will we get to feed a lamb?

There is a possibility! This year, we are expecting many multiple births, which means some lambs may need bottle feeding. However, due to the natural cycle of lambing, we cannot guarantee there will be lambs available to feed during your visit.

Are toilets/changing facilities available?

Yes, we have toilet facilities on-site, including accessible toilets as well as baby changing tables in the facilities for guests.

Can visitors bring their own snacks/picnics?

Absolutely! While a hot filled roll is included with your ticket, you're more than welcome to bring your own lunch or picnic to enjoy after the tour. If the weather permits, our picnic tables under the apple and plum trees offer a perfect setting for a spring day!
